The boys planted Touchstone Gold beets. The spacing is intensive, based on the method used by John Jeavons. One tip to make planting easier: water first. We use a cardboard triangle to make spacing accurate. Once done, we are still covering the hoops with plastic probably until the end of April. Then we’ll switch to fibre.
Garlic in the Snow

We finally got the big snow we were promised, and now my 15 or so garlic plants are tucked snugly in their little igloos.

An herb spiral. This is one of the trademark strategies of permaculture. The spiral’s tiers shelter the shade-loving herbs one side, and the sun-loving herbs are kissed by the sun on the other side. Meanwhile all the herbs are companions to each other, facilitating the growth and soil health of the group.
